Trim-Rite Plans to Add Pork Plant
(October 2004)
Trim-Rite Inc., Carpentersville, Illinois, plans to
build a $9.5 million pork slaughtering and processing plant in Winnebago
County in north-central Illinois within the next two years, according to
the Rockford Register Star newspaper. When the plant is
completed, it will slaughter approximately 2,000 hogs per day and
initially hire 150 people. Eventually, the plant will employ 600-800
workers, the newspaper said.
Kim Huntley, owns and operates a pig farm in the area, said the
proposed facility could possibly eliminate extra expense from shipping
his hogs hundreds of miles to Austin, Minn. "It would be a positive
thing to have a local hog facility," he was quoted in the newspaper
article.
James Jendruczek, president and managing partner of Trim-Rite,
emphasized that the plant won't produce any odor. The company wouldn't
release the location of the site, pending the purchase of the land,
which is already zoned for light-industrial business. The company also
plans to buy hogs from as many local farmers as it can. Local farmers
have faced higher costs to ship their pigs to processors Rochelle Foods
stopped slaughtering in January 2003.
Construction could begin next summer. Jendruczek hopes the plant will
open by spring 2006.
